HARRISBURG – Rep. Tim Twardzik (R-Schuylkill) and Sen. David Argall (R-29) are thrilled to announce two Schuylkill County communities have received grants through the Greenways, Trails and Recreation Program (GTRP) for two key recreational projects.

St. Clair Borough has been awarded $64,175 to create a youth basketball court at the Third Street Recreation Complex. Additionally, Blythe Township has been awarded $160,000 for renovations to Kaska Park, ensuring the space is enjoyable for all residents.

“This funding will enhance recreational opportunities for families throughout our community,” said Twardzik. “The new youth basketball court in St. Clair will offer younger children a safe space to play and develop essential skills, while the upgrades to Kaska Park in Blythe Township will improve facilities for all, supporting healthy, active lifestyles for people of all ages. These projects will strengthen our community’s well-being and encourage physical activity for residents of every age group.”

The Third Street Recreation Complex project in St. Clair includes the development of a basketball court tailored for children in fourth grade and under, featuring lower rims and a smaller court size. This ensures a safe and suitable space for younger players, who often cannot fully enjoy the existing courts as they are typically used by adults and adolescents.

The Kaska Park project in Blythe Township will include installing a new ADA-accessible entrance and playground equipment, a wood carpet safety surface, and fencing. The existing basketball and tennis courts will also be rehabilitated, with resurfacing, restriping and new equipment. The tennis court will be seal coated and restriped to provide a refreshed playing surface.

“I’m grateful this highly competitive state funding will provide new opportunities to enjoy the great outdoors,” said Argall. “Our communities are healthier and stronger when we have quality parks and trails for all to enjoy.”

The Greenways, Trails and Recreation Program supports the development, rehabilitation, and improvement of public parks, greenways, trails and other recreational spaces. These grants will ensure residents have access to quality facilities that encourage physical activity and community engagement.
